Relationship breakdowns are rarely “just behaviour.”
We don’t always talk openly about what happens after conflict. The moment after the boundary. After the “no.” After the decision a child didn’t choose. And yet, for many families, carers, residential staff, social workers and education professionals, these moments quietly become some of the most important - and most difficult - parts of the relationship.
That sense that something has shifted and you’re not sure how to bring it back. It can feel uncomfortable to sit in these moments. To wonder whether you’ve got it wrong. To worry that the relationship has been damaged.
But if this is happening for your child at home or in other contexts, you are not alone.
Access this recorded Deep Dive with TRIBE trauma-informed practitioners Kim Matthews and Aleisha Thomas for this focused Deep Dive, where you’ll explore what’s really happening beneath these behaviours and learn practical, compassionate strategies that help children feel safer, more regulated, and better able to make progress.

This Deep Dive focuses on what happens after conflict or rupture in relationships with children who have experienced trauma.
It will help you understand:
Because these moments are rarely about “defiance” or “overreaction.”
Very often, they are about: Fear, Loss, Control, Shame and Expectations shaped by past relationships.
